Most digital audio tweaks address reducing jitter, or in some instances, reducing RFI/EMI related issues (whether the CDP contaminating the rest of the system, or being affected by other sources of EMI/RFI).For the jitter part, see:
http://www.geocities.com/jonrisch/jitter.htmwhich includes a lengthy set of references and URLs to go look at, many of the cited URLs also have references to seek out.
For the RFI/EMI part, check out posts by Al Sekela in the Cable Asylum or Tweaker's, using the AA search engine. He covers much of that subject in various posts.
The jitter issue often gets overlooked by folks who are technically inclined, but do not have direct experience with digital audio problems and issues, and have not yet realized that jitter does not show up directly in any of the typical set of basic measurements made on audio components INCLUDING DISTORTION AND SPECTRUM ANALYSIS.
