Just as an added note: I have taken cheap CD players and a test disc and connected the analog output to a frequency coounter for 10 minutes at a time. The frequency deviation was somewhere in the milli hertz region. This would appear to suggest little or no FM Jitter, and certainly nothing of importance. If we try the same thing with a good FFT I would expect we should see similar results.
