My Wadia 861 (1998 vintage, with original transport), responded well to two types of tweaks. As Jon mentions, I've found that controlling the RF pollution is helpful.I've also found that placing the player on DIY roller-balls made a big improvement.
The rack is an extensively-damped Lovan frame system. The floor is carpeted thick plywood over post and beam over crawl space. The DIY roller-balls are made to fit into damped beams of aluminum U-channel extrusion that replaced the Lovan shelves.
This suspension provides good freedom in the horizontal directions with firm coupling in the vertical.
I suspect the reason the Wadia sounds better on this type of suspension rather than the stock cone feet is that horizontal vibration of the player forces the servo to draw current from its power supply, and that the power supply design allows modulation from this demand to affect the other circuits. In other words, if I had the means to improve the power supply isolation, the sonic consequences of horizontal vibration would be reduced.
Does this make sense?
I'm going out of town for a week or so, so I'm only offering this for general discussion.
