is the name of the game here. The idea is simple:The signal travels in a balanced line cable. Relatively speaking, the signal is higher current than any sources of noise (hum, buzz) from transformers and the like that might be near the cable.
When the signal arrives at the amplifier, the low impedance termination allows the signal to pass but the noise cannot, because it does not have the current to drive the load and the preamp does.
Especially in the case of the MP-1, 600 ohms has no effect on the output of the preamp. 600 ohms is the standard for termination of balanced lines.
In recent years, we have found ways to reduce noise susceptibility in the preamps themselves and so the termination has been less important, but every now and then a noise situation can crop up that makes the capability handy.
