Noise does not add?

Your argument seems to rest on the belief that noise does not add. That if you add Ndb of noise to Ndb of noise, you get Ndb of noise - no net increase.

I don't think that's right. Noise partly cancels, but not completely.

The reductio-ad-absurdum of your theory is that a 1000th generation analog tape should be no more noisy than a 1st generation tape.
