Home DVD-Audiobahn

New DVD-Audio music releases and talk about the latest players.

I still consider Vinyl the highest resolution. SACD from Analog or DSD masters a close second, 192kHz 24 Bit after that

I actually can even enjoy PCM from low resolution CDs now via my Xindak SCD-2 Tubed SACD player. I believe it is because of both the tubed output stage and the upsampling of 44.1kHz CD to 96kHz 24 Bit. However I sometimes still have a problem on massed strings from CDs, for example the Adagio for Strings by Samual Barber can be quite painful. But for most of the other CDs the pain of PCM is gone.

It do not care for the sound of 24 Bit 48kHz DVD-Audio or for SACDs from 24Bit 48kHz Masters. That is why I believe anything lower than 88.2kHz 24 Bit is NOT high resolution.

While PCM technology has not changed, my CDs are now played though a tubed player and upsampled to 24 Bit 96kHz.

The Turn of a Friendly Card is a little bright, but I believe the Master Tape is also. The imaging is superb and it sounds very smooth though tubes.

Happy listening,
Teresa
