Since I caused this mess....

Before getting into the rest of this post, I should clarify that I do not (personally) have any experience with battery supplies, but that I have had many other folks express their opinion that they represent the best approach.

My suspicion is that the primary benefit is the elimination of the noise and interference that is delivered into (and out of) the component via the incoming AC cable, rather than any inherent superiority w.r.t impedance or regulation.

My own experience with more traditional supplies suggests that improving supply filtering always results in better overall sonics. In other words, I haven't found a point at which supply improvements stop contributing sonic improvements. You can certainly argue that there is a diminishing returns issue, but to me this suggests that there is no "good enough" point below which supply noise ceases to effect the sound.

Obviously, eliminating the incoming AC completely in favor of batteries neatly removes ALL of the line-induced artifacts.
