Go outside and take a "live" 120v extension cord with you. Stand on a moist patch of ground bare feet[ed], and then touch the hot lead of extension cord only. You will definitely get electrocuted, caused by current going thru your body to ground.
And from ground back to neutral.
So ground is draining away the current, to never to return....wouldn't you say?
No, I wouldn't say.
You're forgetting that neutral is tied to an earth ground at the service panel and the reason I'd be electrocuted is because my body is completing a circuit between hot and neutral.
