"Lost overtones" are for the most part harmonics of fundamental tones that are still present. If the loss is noticable then it stands to reason that a little harmonic distortion will in fact restore some lost overtones. Exact restoration? No way. But in some cases it stands to reason that some restoration may be better than none even with the added stuff that wasn't there to begin with. Keep in mind I am not refering to these dvices, whatever they are. I am only speaking about the restoration of lost overtones in general.
