In my opinion it is essential to isolate components and to have wires carefully laid out and isolated from the floor. About 40 years ago I had my last bookshelf speakers and cannot imagine returning to them. I have had very large speakers, but now I have what I would call small floor standing speakers. I have also had 8' tall by 15" in diameter subwoofers which I no longer have.Being considerate is not the issue. My wife misses the music and often asks from across the hall when I am going to put on some music. When my kids were young they ask early on for me to play music when they went to bed at night and for it to be loud. The issue is entirely appearance.
