The real reason that you can pick out the subtle nuances of the human voice over thousands of miles of telco cable is because it is 100% digital once it leaves your local CO. Anyone who is old enough to have made long distance calls in the 50’s (when the PSTN was 100% analog) knows how bad it used to sound.Digital transmission over a mostly fiber-optic network made the Sprint Pin-Drop ad a reality, it has nothing to do with 6 nine pure copper, exotic insulation or anything else like that, regardless of what some mindless marketing guy from a Hi-Fi cable vendor might want us to believe.
