I'm really not the best person to ask about this because I have a really limited experience with horns. We used the Avant Garde horns at a CES one year. The big problem there was the bass and how it integrated with the rest of the sound. That used a servo sub with two 12" woofers (I think), but it couldn't keep up with the horn midrange. Now they have a horn woofer, but it is very large and very expensive. The one that looks the most interesting to me is the (relatively) new JBL K2-9800. The problem with those are that they cost $25,000 a pair.Probably the best thing to do is hang out on the High Effiency Speaker Asylum. A lot of people there are listening to older Altecs and JBLs and can make recommendations. If you're patient you can probably pick stuff up on E-Bay for one or two thousand dollars, perhaps as separate drivers and cabinets.
