Hi John,"I find it amazing that you have walked all over the place
on eggshells in an attempt to not hurt anybody's
feelings..and yet, it didn't seem to be enough...Perhaps
grovelling??"ROTFLMFAO. :>)
Appreciate your observation and think your observation has a
lot of merit to it.IMO, my current approach to usenet and net posting is based on:
Six years of usenet posting experience.
8 years of working with mechanical engineers to actually
find a way to make their stuff / make their stuff at a
reasonable cost. In this country there is a very, very high
level of tension and animosity that machinists / toolmakers
have toward most mechanical engineers... for damn good
reason. In addition, because of the economy you have what
really amounts to a horrible environment in most small
machining job shops. This is especially true if your shop is
doing tight tolerance prototype aerospace work for
Honeywell. If Honeywell can shift *any burden* to the small
shop they do. From stocking parts, to continually modifying
contracts, to asking for a 30 percent roll back in price and
suggesting Arizona small machining job shops move to Mexico
and take on a Mexican partner. Many shops here are very
angry with how Honeywell does business. As far as groveling is concerned, it would have helped me
tremendously and still would if I could learn to grovel. Not
being able to learn to grovel has hurt me in a lot of ways.
At times, because of my health problems, not being able to grovel
has meant being homeless and it also has effected the speed
at which I can learn what I want to learn. Despite all this,
I do feel that not having the desire / not being able to
grovel does have some inherent benefits to it. ;>)"Charles is right about the price/perf/issue with small
manu's. At the small volume, it's incredibly hard to keep
the price down..Course, you knew that, as that even applies
to aerospace machining. Quantity=lower cost."No disagreement here, John and very well stated.
"I used K horns in the past, at 300 w/ch. Bout 30 years ago,
when I thought Bose 901's were the end-all. Really liked the
spl, didn't have a clue as to quality sound."We all have to learn. I've made some very expensive mistakes
in buying audio equipment. Despite not having the
groveling capabilities, I am blessed with the ability to be
very honest with myself when I realize I have made a
mistake(s). I certainly make my fair share. When I realized
the audio mistakes I made I did not hesitate for a second about
dumping the equipment at a huge loss and admitting to myself
that I should have put more attention into evaluating my
other choices. One expensive mistake I made was I purchased
Adcom mono-blocks which were very, very harsh. I bet if I
was more aware and had spent more time I would have been
much better off with another amp I was shown. I don't
remember the name or model number... I think it had like a
"V" built into the exterior design of it. Maybe Parasound ?"Now, I've some big pro-driver stuff.. 101 db spl, but for
good listening and soundstage?? piss poor..Major spl with
3Kw, totally excellent for 500 seat venues, but that's more
of a coverage and frequency response issue, not an overly
phase critical application."Seems like the major question for me to determine is can
horns give me "good listening and sound stage" in a living
room. It also seems like my only choice if I don't want
to lay out huge dollars for lots of power."PS...when I first started here, I also did the eggshell
walk thing..but it did not prevent my being stepped on.."There is no substitute for posting experience... everyone
has got to pay their dues and constantly evaluate if the
experience is worth it to them. IMO your doing just fine and
I hope you find someone who wants to take the time and give
you the input that you certainly deserve to get.I hope I have addressed the groveling issue to your
satisfaction. :>) In not, perhaps a second opinion on my
admitted poor track record of groveling / learning to grovel
might provide further insight. ;>)Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences with
horn speaker systems !jon
