Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

As you

seem a little slow let me articulate. *I* am not running about telling people that their listening observations are flawed ... or insist they modify their language, or whatever the hell it is the zealots want ... because they haven't used DBT, or some other blind testing methodology. Consequently *I* don't feel any need to make a case for DBT ... do you get that?

...

Now, as to blind testing I'm actually a big fan, I do my own. In particular I work with a local cable designer who trusts my ears and we routinely use blind testing (at *my* request) when evaluating cables.

However, the blind aspect of these tests is the *only* difference that is made in our, or perhaps I should say, my, testing routine. Namely, I prefer to listen to a complete music selection, then sway cables (maintaining same level and inputs) and listen again. Depending upon circumstances I may sway multipletimes for a given musical selection, perhaps even shortening the duration of the selection, but generally nothing less that about 25-30 seconds minimum. I record my observations, and sometimes between trials (musical selections) the "first" cable is randomized, sometimes not.

Oh I should mention I have spent many many hours listening to his system, in his room. Hence I am intimately familiar with the system and room, something I consider near mandatory for doing *any* serious comparisons, blind or not.

Now, if you were familiar with the popular (at least in myth, again there's not much practice) rigorous DBT methods you'd immediately recognize major differences between them and what I do. If you're interested some of those differences then by all means go research the topic.

Best,
