Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

And I took no offense

I probably should have skipped the last paragraph of my post as it shifted the focus away from what I thought was important. Namely that if we could all agree that it is possible to make a cable that would sound horrible then it only follows that there is a difference between cables.

Honestly I never went very far with cables. The first pair of silver in teflon cables I tried lasted all of a few seconds before my (bad) cats ate them....ditto on magnet wire. John Curl turned me onto the rat shack cables several years ago and we both agreed they are tizzy. I couldn't handle them with solid state gear. But with tube gear I can tolerate them and they are cat proof and cheap enough. I am sure one of these days I will revist cables but right now they are far down on my list.

Curious that you mention not liking certain silver cables but the one you like is silver plated copper. I feel that I can hear silver plated copper wire with teflon insulation as sounding harsh when I build amps so tend to use irradiated PVC over unplated copper.
