Start with Lipshitz and Vanderkooy; their early work on level matching and frequency response was a first good indication of the sensitivity of blind testing. It's interesting that trained listeners could distinguish amazingly small level and EQ changes.

Unless by "successful" you mean "having results in accord with my own wishes and those of the magazine that pays me." If we exclude that definition, then Stereophile has actually run some successful tests, sensitive enough to make the statistical handling mistakes quite evident. In the one particular test I have in mind, I compliment Stereophile on its willingness to publish Herman Burstein's takedown of their methodology and analysis.
