I agree the double slit experiment is strange, also think it is even stranger than you think . For example, if individual photons are fired one at a time toward the double slit, they also form a wave interference pattern over time. The DS experiment also works for "real" particles such as electrons!Your search has not been extensive enough to see that the metals ID'd by the lab are quite commonplace in quantum dots.
The heat generated by the laser is the key to laser-cutter; it doesn't function as you are suggesting. The metal is actually vaporized by the high power laser.
