Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

The darkside of electronics

Accuphase has "Guaranteed Specifications," meaning their gear will meet certain performance criteria, or you can send the gear back and they'll fix it.

Wadia has detailed specs on all their gear, including whitepapers on the foundation of their technology. So does dCS. So does Meridian.

MIT has an extensive section on cable technology, including their patents and white papers, and tech notes on cable burn-in. So does AudioQuest. Kimber has a section on basic electronic theory to better understand the theory behind their products.

You can buy service manuals (including schematics) for all McIntosh gear, I think they keep an archive going back decades. The same is true for Audio Research.

Pass has a large DIY section, along with theory on how their amps work, with simplified schematics you can build as examples.

Walker Audio provides a money back guarantee on SST, Vivd, Points, and just about all their other products. So does Mapleshade.

The point is, if a company comes out with some crazy tweak, that even those that purport the effectiveness of the chip say has a nonsensical explaination, seems to break the laws of physics, and has no guarantee or firm explaination of what it will do, you have to expect some skepticism, to say the very least.

Besides which, many in this hobby are inherent technofiles, and part of the fun of new gear is learning or finding out how it works.
