Steve, I have measured non-linearities that appear to be similar to the distortion that diodes paralleled by resistors would make in my wire measurements. I find that some wires that do not generate this distortion, and I can find other wires that generate a fair amount of this distortion. I can also minimize, even eliminate much of the distortion that I previously measured by using a large ground strap between input and output, BUT this bypasses the ground return of the cable itself.
If I reverse the coaxial cable, and drive the shield as the hot, then the distortion reappears. I now suspect that the distortion that I first measured is in the ground return, primarily, of some audiophile coaxial cables.
The cables that you sent to me, could be measured, but they were actually very good, compared to some more expensive cables that I have also tested. Why, I am not sure, but I suspect that it is in the shield termination that the problem is generated.
In any case, I would not knowingly assert something, that I knew to be incorrect, unlike Klaus did on April 3.
