Many people have talked about the slam of silver. I have not experienced that. Different system synergies I guess. Brightness and hardness could be the silver revealing the components. Al Sekela attibutes this to silver's better RF conductivity, which makes sense to me. I feel that the slam that many people may be talking about is a hardness and/or harshness to the upper mids which gives the impression of greater dynamics. I can't speak for the best of silver products, because I don't have experience with them.I would assume the reason to have gold, silver, copper as an alloy in your IC is to tame internal resonances. People have gotten great results with palladium as well. It makes sense to me. I would ask, "What is the purpose of the copper and gold if not to mechanically dampen?" If it were simply a matter of resistance, why not have all high purity silver?
I have both ICs and speaker cable with silver here. I have yet to use a silver cable that I love. Based on experience with ICs and raw wire made of different materials (copper, high purity copper, long grain, cryoed, silver, carbon fibers), I firmly believe that you can hear the effects of the different materials. For example the carbon cables to not sound metalic. The equations are great, the theory is nice, but it doesn't explain the experienced sonic effects of the materials.
