What is the world is a "EQ'd cutting master tape"?

Good question! Rumor has it there's a retired codex engineer turned country hick who knows, but unfortunately he not talking! LOL

But seriously, understanding the motivation behind this entire thread will go a long way toward understanding the dilemma. You see there's a set of objective die hards addicted to the idea that a few measurements tell all where it come to audio components. Consequently the notion that the performance of CD Players (and related) has improved dramatically over the last two decades presents a special challenge to them. Why? Simple actually, it's the fact that even the earliest CDP has spectacular specifications, S/N, IM, TIM, etc. And from that perspective the modern players have hardly changed. Thus they are would like to foster a myth, i.e. that the early players were perfectly fine, that little has changed, that there *hasn't* been a dramatic improvement in CDP performance.

Unfortunately, lacking imagination, they come up with foolishness like "EQ'd cutting master tape". :)
