...i think you are making a leap if you think that frank could immediately sell *every* piece he makes.i realize there is a long line (and few being made), but i see at least 2 scenarios that are not good:
1) it's your turn and you make your selections to customize the arm. you don't put a deposit down. he makes it...then you don't want it. well, even if *someone* further down the line wants it, the guy who was next and didn't want to back out could have gotten his sooner if frank was only make the actual tonearms ordered and committed.
2) let's say it's your turn (again), and you order the weirdest combination. you back out. that arm may not sell at all -- or it may take a while.
50% on order, 50% on delivery is not that uncommon in many fields.
