Some people are willing to wait however long it takes for a handmade piece, like Frank's tonearm. I suspect is not a hobby with him at all. It's a passion.The Blue Angel Mantis is another such product, and I talk the maker frequently. He could outsource various parts, but volume isn't why he does it. Those cartridges are part of him, and he lives with each one awhile before it is sent.
People like Frank Schroeder and A.J. Hanekom are cut from a different cloth. Their products are highly respected performers that could be mass produced, but they aren't because they are all individual works. It is art, I suppose...art that makes music, like a custom violin.
