Wow, what a good response! I definitely appreciate the feedback! After doing the research, listening to the opinions, and listening to the actual speakers, I think I've definitely decided to steer clear of Bose. Instead, I think I'm going to get a pair of Polk Audio R50s (which a friend of mine has--I really like their overall sound, and they're not going to break the bank) I'm also going to try to pick up an old pair of Realistic Minimus 7s, which I've heard provide a lot of bang for the buck....a friend of mine also has these and I think they sound amazing for their sound and price...especially on vinyl.
