Ben,Specific tape compatibility was a concern that I addressed - having previously read related posts on this site.
The dealer/enthusiast who supplied me with the B77 confirmed he had set the deck up using Ampex/Quantegy 456 - I duly picked up five reels from him. Additionally, I bought Maxell UD 3590 - which I have since been advised would not be compatible with a deck set up for 456.
FWIW, I have asked for measured specification prints before and after the second set-up on the same tape formulation. It'll be interesting to see if the pre & post set-up specs confirm what I think I am hearing...
