Actually $200 for a 1000 is a pretty sweet deal if it's running well. If it's a 1000-II it's a steal, it it's a 1000ZXL go there now and buy it, and I'll double your money. :)

The RX-505 is nice, but they also can be pretty expensive.
A lot of people swear by the 670/680 decks, which can be got fairly cheap. I have a CR-5, which is a great deck, and they are usually under $400 as opposed to the $700+ the CR-7 goes for, despite being the same deck, minus the frills.

Your guys may be expensive, but if they can fix an old 1000 they can probably fix just about anything Nak made.
