Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

Re: Fascinating, isn't it?

I think I know what happens to them because I was once one of them, to be quite honest. I just got my BSEE degree and so I wanted to feel like I was well educated and that reasoning would be enough to answer some of the "obvious" questions. When some other audiophile electrical engineer told me he heard the effects of Litz wired cables internally I was actually pissed about it, much as you find from others here. "What damn thing could possibly make a difference in a stinkin' wire?!" I exclaimed to myself. My training excluded any such thing from being significant.

So he demonstrated it. I had to admit I thought I heard a minor effect, but again it was a "so what?" attitude. It still didn't matter.

Finally, and here's the amusing part. I bought a pair of your speakers, the Avalon Eclipse. Then boy oh boy did that change my perspective on everything forever about what audio was capable of. Suddenly I heard real differences in every component, the speakers revealed all. It really screwed me up there for awhile as my belief system was torn apart. I started experimenting with many tweaks, some bizarre, and some worked and some didn't. But the wire was definitely heard on those speakers. Before I couldn't quite detect the differences reliably. I moved on to other speakers for various reasons, like something not quite so brutally revealing, but never since has there been a tool for listening to other components like those Avalons. I bet you still use those speakers because they really are great for evaluation purposes.
