You know, it is really tough to implant information here. I recall a talk as to why 'Intersil' who made all linear products about 25 years ago, stated that they would not have any 'gold' in their production environment. Of course, they could have been 'lying' 'promoting' or 'marketing'.Sure, they could have been. Though real technology companies don't generally cater to laypersons who wouldn't know any better so it's a bit more difficult for them to get away with that sort of thing.
However metallic impurities (whether intentional as with doping or unintentional as with contamination) do indeed cause popcorn noise. As do heavy ions.
