""You can read about this in _Physics of Semiconductor Devices_, 2nd Edition, S.M. Sze, Wiley-Interscience, 1981.""L7Geeze, I'm gettin old...Mine is first edition...
Gold is sooooo leaky, and gets much worse at temperature...
Lotta manu's lighten the profile, and go smaller base width...Makes for fast devices without the gold, but can wreak havoc with Early effect and emitter dip..causing high localized gains. Sometimes, I had to sort by a BVces/BVcbo ratio to eliminate the weak ones..The high power rf ones were the worst.
Sometimes ya gotta watch the die attach or emitter bond wires, as many devices will exhibit horizontal thermal transients that affect thermal effects in the tens of milliseconds, vs the vertical 10 to 100 uSec..
Cheers, John
