I have a copy of that patent and had a long look at it. For a power amp, this appears to be not much of an issue considering the high voltage across VCE and the high impedance load a diff amp drives. Also if the gain is high the "real" amplification is done at the class A driver in the next stage. I can see the use of this application, or something like it in a low gain higher voltage application.Well typically everything up to the output stage will generally be operating in class A. But typical class A operation is not constant power. The instantaneous power in the device changes with the signal even in class A operation. So there would still be thermal modulation. The idea here is that constant power is maintained in the device regardless of signal.
