Re: micing a kickdrum with a Shure SM58?

62.254.0.16

yeah i'm not in the best of positions all round with this one but i was kinda hoping that the snare would be heard over things without the need for it being miced up

i've never done anything like this before, i've read a fair bit over the last 6 months but never had the chance to put it into practice and with little over a day to go it's panic time so any help would be appreciated

my problem stems from only having 8 mic/line channels on the mixer

the headline band has 3 vocals, 2 guitars, a bass and a 3 part brass section

i'm unsure as to whether or not the brass section will need to be miced or not and if it does it can only be off 1 mic for all three of them

and that only leaves 1 or 2 at best for the drum kit

as it stands the room is 25m by 8m with the stage in the middle of one of the long walls opposite the bar

it's normally a comedy/caberet club and as such the in house consists of 2 x peavey 2-ways each side of the stage and a couple of subs

i was hoping to disconnect the subs and just use my own cos of time delays (they're reflex or bandpass i'm using horns) but patch into the in house to cover the extremes leaving my own pair of 3-ways to do the front of house

i was also hoping to be able to feed the subs off the 1st aux send for the bass and kickdrum and at least give them a solid foundation

the monitors off the 2nd aux send

thankfully i've got a driverack 480 i can use and running each feed in mono i should at least be able to gain some control over things there

the extremes of the room are secondary my main thoughts are about getting the area directly infront of the stage sounding right and hopefully that will draw people on to the dance floor

as i said a nightmare first gig i normally work with DJ's and electronic live acts - it's far easier they do all the mixing for you!
