That's interesting. I don't hang in that forum as it's too commercially oriented (if you don't know the name of the company that shares its street address you should).
A soundman's job is to showcase for the public what the performing artist has to offer. If it's a hip hop act that wants it's message delivered with all the sonic subtlety of a wrecking ball then fine; give the kids what they want. But any soundman who takes a bassplayer, or any other musician, to task about how he wants his instrument heard is in serious need of an education as to his position in the food chain. It is the soundman who serves at the pleasure of the musician, not the other way around.
