In front of the beater head, pointing up at the bottom of the snare.the 58 will make no low end without proximity - so make it proximate to something low. Bottom's of snares sound pretty good, and the hat will also be inside the pattern. Its a lot like the other idea.
.... and.... what drives the beat depends on the music. Motown was snare driven, Country (aka 70's rock ) is kick driven...
