Why? The dam diaphragm is the size of a nickel in diameter

If you use a PZM (pressure zone mic) you can get some impressive
results on drums<<
Okay, so the SM57 sucks because the diaphragm's too small...but a PZM is good because the diaphragm's even smaller????
