A 58 isn't the best choice for kick, but it will work. However, if I read you right you intend only 1 mic for the kit and that on the kick? If you only use 1 mic put it where it will do the most good, above the bass drum nestled between the toms aiming at the snare. Getting kick in the PA is nice if you can do it but it's snare that drives the beat. Kick is secondary.
