I've made hundreds of cassettes using pristine sources, a good TT and high-quality tapes, and as good as they sounded, they didn't come within miles of a CD. Are you aware that those decks had SN figures of 60-65, tops? 60-65! Analog, shmanalog, the only thing worse than the hissing was what the things sounded like with Dolby "noise reduction." And let's be realistic about 8-tracks. With respect to Christine, whose father is probably my age, not only did they sound awful, the music from the other tracks often bled through to what you were hearing. Songs were even continued on other tracks! It was amazingly bad.
