Hey-Hey!!!,
I'll have to agree with Jim on the sadness of cutting up Deuces for their Iron. The economics do favour cutting them up. If a reasonable price could be charged for such good Iron, there would be fewer amps getting taken out of service. I could speculate on what Doc Hoyer wants for a rewound Deuce OPTx, but the resonable conclusion would be that two from him would be more expensive than a ratty amp would cost.I got a Deuce to see if the Iron is worth having. I rebuilt it with Jim's full Kit. It is really good. It will pain me greatly to have one of its output TX's unwound by Heyboer. However, the end will justify the means, as NC-machine wound copies will be quite under what it costs to acquire them while still wrapped up in an amp. Additionally, anybody wanting a pair of them will have but to make a phone call and ask...I won't be sitting on the design like a dog in the manger, nor will I be taking any profit from the experience. Hopefully, the endeavour will result in fewer amps getting cut up for the good output Iron.
Those Deuce outputs will make me a fine PP 813 amp, and if I need more made with a modification here or there, that won't require wrecking any more of the precious originals to do it.
cheers,
Douglas
