With all due respect, I think you are way off base here. What "power was wasted" by NFB? NFB has little to no effect on power, just gain.

I really think that adopting the idea of cannibalizing the amp for the iron is simply not good advice.

I have customers who have heard properly redone Cit IIs beat the pants off amps costing 10 times as much.

Just because it doesn't follow "the rules" doesn't mean it isn't a phenomenal amp. If I was alone in that opinion you could say I was prejudiced, or was just trying to promote my stuff. But I'm FAR from alone!
