I agree that coiling a straight wire INCREASES it's inductance, actually by quite a large amount over that same wire just straight. But winding a brass slug into that 3 turn coil will LOWER it's inductance noticably over it's air core value - but I suspect not as low a value as the wire if not coiled.The ferrite situation is completely different - under it's inherent "filter frequency" it's addition to a straight wire will raise the inductance - above this inherent freq point it adds a "resistive" loss to any signal attempting to pass down the wire - but I don't know actually what happens to the inductance. I suspect that it will drop a lot, but it's "Q" would also drop so that it would be very hard to measure the inductance.
