I disagree with the common knowledge espoused up here. In most audio amps I see, of the triode variety, the circuitry that preceeds the output is far worse than the differences between, say, a Magnequest, Tango, Vintage UTC, Peerless, Freed, or whatever.Of course, in the non-triode world, impedance matching is important, and you'll figure out what to select.
Let me put it this way, there may be about a 5% sonic difference in "accepted" to be decent output trannies, but there is about TEN times that difference to be gained...... in the way you implement the circuitry that preceeds the output iron, and particularly of course, in your amp's power supply's design and overall execution.
We should be discussing optimizing these implementations, because in tube amps, "thats where its at" - if you wanna make audible progress.
