Oh yeah!! Proud owner of a Revox B-215-S (the black version) here. Sent it to Steven Sank (Talking Dog Trandsucer company) a few years ago and had it overhauled and modded. Here's my interpretation:
What I like about the Revox B215
--------------------------------
--tapes made in this deck played back elsewhere sound very good
--feels very rock solid and sturdyWhat I don't like about the Revox B215
--------------------------------------
--cannot calibrate every tape I put in it; Maxell UD-XL-II it could not align
--there is no manual bias control so top end chromes with searing high end I cannot compensate forother points:
1. I would like to borrow someone's Revox remote contorl so I can make my universal control learn the tape transport commands
2. I find there is a big difference in the resultant sound based on which tape I use: Maxell XL-II from the 80s sounds very different than BASF Reference Master.
3. I also own a Nakamichi RX-505. Without question, the Revox makes much much better recordings. However, I never owned one of the Nak true high end decks like 1000ZXL,CR7, or ZX9 so I cannot compare recordings. From the way everyone types/talks/writes, it seems that the Revox has a more neutral recorded sound and the Nak decks have more warmth.I could keep this thread open for weeks talking about this tape deck.
