Who cares about guidelines. Everyone hears a little differently. If I had to listen to middle-eastern music for the rest of my life I'd kill myself. Now a stereo with monster cables would not bring me to suicide; it would just bug me. You on the other hand may prefer monster cable. See where guidelines become moot? There's too much room for subjectivity.I have to say SE is making more sense to me lately. Unlike him though I have and still make recommendations based on my observations and experiments (not scientific mind you) with a handful of cable brands. Over the past 10 years I've come to my own conclusions. I believe I hear minor differences in cables. Non-audio friends have confirmed or denied my observations with cables I've given to them. (since they would never buy them)
I feel we just don't know enough about audio to have all of the answers. I think we know a lot. But there's too much money involved and too much bickering for there ever to be a consensus.
