Hi,

I think a lot of the reason why some people don't like the sound
of followers is because they actually are feedback devices. I've
done some hi-resolution simulations on various devices and proved
(at least to myself) that feedback lowers low-order harmonics at
the expense of raising hi-order harmonics.

You need to apply a lot of feedback to get beyond this effect. See
for instance Cheever's thesis - figure 2-15 page 58. I think
Baxendall has an article on this topic from the 70's but I haven't
seen it.

If feedback increases harmonics at the 7th harmonic and beyond,
this *may* cause some real irritating effects. Its hard to say for
sure as it's the overall recipe of sound thats important.
