If I go with a single 12V supply I would be biased up around +6V on the input and the transformer volume control is a short to ground. It has no output coupling cap there.D'oh! It slipped my mind that you're using an autoformer.
All the more reason to go with a split supply. Dump the input cap and go with a BG N on your output.
If you go with bipolars using a Sziklai or Darlington follower, the input bias current will be next to nothing and shouldn't cause any problems with the autoformer.
Whatever works best. Probably use an active current sink or something.
Passive can work well if you don't mind dropping the efficiency of the follower down to about 5%. But since you're looking at less than a watt of output power, it'd be quite manageable.
I am the poster formerly known as Kurt Strain. :) I try, but I have not found a way to keep people who know me from checking in on my postings and have them not react some times to them. Once you're monicker is used with your real name, it's traceable to your computer and you can never really go incognito anymore. I might as well be registered as Kurt Strain, but what the heck, I'm kurt s today.
Oops. Sorry for blowing your cover. :)
Thanks.
