Hi.The author of the link stated his impression of power cords, from "Stg30 to whopping Stg1,800, for what is, after all, a kettle lead to connect your stereo to the three pin power socket in the wall".
He went on to propose burning the sounds from different power cords on CDs & audition the difference as a "pilot study". He commented such excercise is "palaver" & he is "not going to bother".
IMO, what a layman's talk!!!
I happen to own an audiophile grade test CD, among a few highly acclaimed music test CDs from the same label, cut from a 24-bit digital master. It provdes the sound of power cords of ten different brandnames, played consecutively on the SAME short piece of music for easy audition & comparison.
Frankly who cares about all those cord brands, I just play the sound tracks & I do hear the difference among them. May be my gears (all amps are DIYs) are super hi resolution or I got some golden ears.
So it is really a total blind test as I personally don't know & care about whatever brands are these cords under test in the sound tracks.
The fact is I hear the difference. Which one I like is irrelevant as it is toally personally subjective.
Likewise, I carried a sight audition of three power cords, one off-the-shelf item, SJT, available cheaply from any electronics shop, one oxygen-free pure copper conductors, double braid/foil shielded with vibration resistance heavy duty filler & jacket, & one with silver stranded conductors without any shielding & fillers. Both are my DIYs.
They all sound bigtime different. The SJT sounds blurry, out of focus. The OFHC cord sounds pretty good in all sonic perspectives. Yet the silver cord sounds more transparent, life-like & vibrant. Personally I prefer the silver cord most. The stock SJT sounds 'out to lunch'.
I hope whoever wants to comment on cable sonics, please audition thoroughly rather than hearsay.
