Stereo is not compression. It takes a limited view of the soundfield, and (properly implemented) recreates that limited view. IMO, this has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with any normal usage of the word compression.

You are certainly correct that it is an imcomplete view of the soundfield.

I didn't mean any of that bit-rate compression fiddling, and I didn't actually realize you were even thinking about it

Is this really a serious statement? This sub-thread started with my suggestion that jj's work mostly revolved around data compression strategies for audio rather than producing things aimed at better sound, you responded with the PSR, but then you are surprised that I'm talking about data compression?

We appear to be 2 people separated by a common language.
