I hate it when that Happens!

Re: your quote below: I hate it when that happens!

"By the way, paranasal sinuses mainly affect phonation, if smoking results in tinnitis and affects hearing, you better get an ENT surgeon to check out the fossa of Rosenmuller.
After the removal of this primary pathology, you will be able to differentiate an Aiwa from an Atmasphere".

Seriously, If I think quitting smoking improved my hearing , it did! If you think green velvet improves your system performance, it did also. Which one of us is right - who cares?

Perception like beauty, is in the ear of the beholder.

I'd like to request a compromise/truce. Pehaps we should try smoking green velvet while listening to our systems on a freshly oiled chair! Now there's a twist for you.

Confession/Conclusion: I have been doin' the Audio thing for over 30 years. I enjoy it. Sometimes I enjoy the gear and it's history more than the music.I have owned (UPS)truckloads of speakers, Tuntables, tonearms, cartridges, amplifiers, CeeDee players , DACs, tuners, wires, etc. (Want to know my UPS drivers first name)?

Some gear DOES make music as a whole or its' indidvidual musical parts, better than other gear. Mostly, different equipment makes music sound different, not always better or worse. What tweaks you may not tweak me. How many of you have spent lots of $$ on a new piece of gear, anxiously awaited it's arrival, pluged it in, and turned it on, queued up some music only to be dissapointed in the extremely incremental improvement (if you're lucky). ..Or to find that you have improved one thing while ruining another! I guess that's why we do what we do.

I'm not attacking what anyone does in their Music room, on, under or around their equipment, that's private. Just having some fun with lenghts that we will go for an improvement.

Consider the Interconnect , Speaker Cable issue. I once brought a manufacturers Rep. to his knees on this foolishness!

I would love to have several "wire guys" in my home with their own products, with blindfolds, doing some real comparisions. (I did this one time with a few audio guys I know). Each guy brought his own "favorite" speakerwire. I asked that all but one,(a witness),to close their eyes while I changed wires. While they had their eyes closed,I put all of their wires in a box and placed them in the next room. I left my humble Mogami wires in the system. I played a cut for them, allowed them to make notes, and talk amongst them selves. Then I requested that they close their eyes or face the other way while I changed the speaker wires. I performed this test several times. Each time I did this I allowed them the same amount of time for notes and discussion, approx. 5 minutes. Results: I had to leave the room while they were comparing - I alomost burst out in laughter. You should have heard them. " The first one was MUCH smoother, better highs-put those wires back in" , "the third one had NO bass", "really bright - that must be the Silver wire" , "the presentation moved waaaay up front on the last pair". Then I had the witness tell them ... That I never changed the wire!
