The olive oil tweak was actually obtained from TAS, I tried it once on Koetsu wood cartridge and the sound became smoother and softer, the major problem is the degradation of the olive oil so I switched to Old English wood polish.
The tweak I strongly believe in, is the way you break in your component. NEVER use synthesized signal to break in components, never use rock music as well. The best way is to break in every new component gently with chamber music, or solo violin. After 30-50 hours, use piano or cello for another 50 hours. If a new component is overdriven with rock music at the very beginning, the component will irreversibly lose its tonal beauty, resulting in harsh sound.
For old components which have already been broken in, you may try to play nylon guitar repeatedly for several hours and the whole system will sound more "liquid".
This is not very scientific, but I do hear a difference.
