It is almost certainly not the rectifier tube. My guess-and that's what it is--is slew rate induced distortion. If you are or were a string player, you are intimately familiar with what strings should sound like. If you think of the complex wave pattern a single string instrument makes, then think about how complex the wave patter is with massed strings, then think about peak instantaneous rate of change (dV/dT) I think you can see where your system has to pass little bits of near-square waves from time to time.Another possibility is bad recordings. If it wasn't recorded well, and you have a good system, you 'get' to hear the recording's shortcomings.
