Re: MU 6900s, Wondering if I Shoud Use These

I can testify that "In the Mastersound 845 amp, the 6900 sounds better than a 5687" is 100% correct! In fact it literally transforms the amp!

In fact my ex-roomate (who believed anyone who spent more than $1000 on a complete audio system was nuts) knocked on my door after I replaced NOS Tung-Sol 5687's with 6900's. I wanted to see how the 6900 "sounded" so I put on Deacon Blues by Steely Dan and within a minute *KNOCK*KNOCK*KNOCK* on my door!

What's the matter, I asked.

My ex-roomate said, what did you change on your stereo?

Why? I asked.

Because I've never heard a stereo sound so real before was his reply! (and remember that was through the door)

I still get the response from many people to this day. Funny thing is I've heard some people say the 6900 is very solidstate sounding, yet in the Mastersound Reference 845 amp, it's the KING of 9-pin tubes!

It just goes to show how system dependent everything (including tubes) is! So experiment and use what sounds good TO YOU, in YOUR SYSTEM, in YOUR HOME and not what audio gurus tell you to use. In the end you'll be a lot happier that way....
